Mizuki was waiting at an eerily empty train station for her ride to school and had her wooden katana with her because she'd just come from the dojo for training. The station had only a few panicky looking people and some calm people, but not as many as usual. She wondered if maybe there was a bug going around making people sick. one of these people was a rather handsome looking boy standing about 6 feet from her. She turned back to the approaching train, sensing something amiss.

Kuro walked down the sideway of the western district, heading towards the train station. The sound of his black leather shoes echoing with each step that he took. The silence around him was eerie. Sure there was the occasional car or the sound from neighboring houses that he passed but over all there was basically nobody out. Could it be a bug? Or was he really just late. He looked at his watch. 7:20 It wasn't that late. People should be out and about. He continued on towards the train station.
As he arrived at the station only minutes later he found the same eerie emptiness that he noticed on his way there. There was very few people there. He looked at his watch again. 7:24 This little people at this time? Well at least there won't be too many people on the train. He thought. He walked up the the waiting area, suitcase in hand with all of his things for school. He noticed a relatively attractive girl only a few feet from him. She caught his eye not due to her looks though, but the wooden katana that she had. Kuro knew there was a dojo near by. That would explain it. After all how many people just carry wooded katanas around with them. He looked at his watch again. 7:31 The train was late. This was strange indeed. Kuro knew not everyone was as punctual as he was but the train was never late. Just then his mind buzzed with the sound of moving wheels and buzzing tracks as the train trailed in. He was relieved that the train arrived but still something seemed strange to him. He just couldn't tell as to what.

As the train pulled up, even it was noticeably empty inside, and the passengers there looked somewhat depressed. nothing new there. Mondays depressed lots of people. The train moved slowly up to the station for the passengers to get on and off. Some passengers seemed slower than others.
'There must be a bug going around or something.' She though to herself as she tried to get the train. She got on, preferring to stand rather than sit on the train, even this empty. Some passengers looked particularly sick today, so she pulled a surgical mask from her school bag and put it on to prevent catching whatever they had. One of the sick passengers walked past her to go sit on a seat and sit ahead of her near the front of the train. As he walked past, she noticed he stunk of rotting flesh, and tried her best not to gag on the smell. She decided to move closer to the back of the train to get away from the smell, pretending she was going over to talk to a friend she noticed to try to be polite about it. She walked over to where that boy she'd seen earlier was sitting, staring out the window and sat across from him.
"Noticed anything weird about these sick people?" She asked him. "What kind of sickness could cause this?"

Kuro patiently waited before entering the train. After all a true gentleman allows others to enter or exit before himself, especially when there are women or children. So shortly after the girl with the wooden katana stepped onto the train he also made his way in, moving towards the back where there were less people. This way if there was a bug going around he wouldn't be surrounded by people who were possibly contagious, though being stuck on a train with them didn't make his chances any better, never the less it was the thought that counted. Besides most of the people further up seemed overly depressed and or ill, which Kuro didn't really want to be around. He gently set his briefcase down on the floor where he would be sitting and relaxed a little, pulling out his white leather gloves and slipping them on. This would provide another small counter to the possible illness that people were getting, or at least give him some sort of small comfort towards it.
Kuro looked towards a man that was walking towards the front part of the train for better seating. He looked a bit paler then the others so it was probably for the better that he would be further away from him. What caught his eye next was the girl he was standing next to while awaiting for the trains arrival. She was wearing a surgical mask over her mouth, probably to keep herself from getting sick like the others. Well it is nice that others also like to prevent themselves from getting sick, unlike others. he thought to himself with his eyes a little more sharp, as if he was annoyed at those who were lofting around, taking no action to make themselves less contagious. Kuro noticed something else about the girl as the man who made his way towards the front passed her. He felt a sense of disgust come from her, though it was small and rather well hidden, as if the man reeked of some sort of fowl smell or something. It wasn't surprising what he saw next as the girl made her way to the back, most likely to escape whatever it was that mildly set her off. He paid little attention to her after though as she took the seat across from him , until she brought up conversation.
"Noticed anything weird about these sick people?" "What kind of sickness could cause this?" she asked.
Kuro loosed up his jacket collar slightly and said. "Well other then the up most disregard for others and the almost drone like actions, not really. Tell me, what was wrong that brought you back here once that man passed? Did he smell or something?"

"Yes. He stank of rotting flesh or something." she replied. "I don't know what's going around, but I'd rather not catch it, personally. It seems rather nasty." She leaned back against the window and looked out, straight ahead, crossing her legs.
'Maybe I should have let the chauffeur drive me today...' she thought. She noticed out of the corner of her eye that this boy looked rather neat, so he must have been from a higher class family of some sorts. Just then, sh realized she didn't even know his name or what school he went to, and closed her eyes in annoyance at her lack of manners.
"Forgive me, I seem to have forgotten my manners, and I know I was raised better than that. I still don't know your name. I'm Mizuki Haruto. Pleasure to make your acquaintance." She held out her hand to shake his, regretting not bringing her gloves like he did, and appeared to smile at him under the mask, turning away from the window and back to facing him.

"On no the pleasure it all mine Miss Mizuki Haruto." he said as he shook her hand. "My name is Kuro, Kuro Mikaerisu." He smiled pleasantly and returned to his prior analytical glaze of the other people of the train, more focused on the man that Misuki said smelled.
"Smelled of rotting flesh or something. Hmmm, that does sound rather nasty and unpleasant. I have no idea as to what illness would do such a thing but I would have to agree with you that I surely would not enjoy catching it. If my eyes don't deceive me, it seems that some of the others are suffering from similar symptoms as that man. So they are probably going to start smelling the same way pretty soon. I can only hope we can manage to reach our needed destinations before that happens."
Kuro focused his attention more towards Misuki, actually taking the time to look at her a little more closely. She looked not that much younger then he did, probably within two or possibly three years, which brought a new question to his mind. He also noticed the school bag that she had with her, which gave him a pretty good feeling that she was a student.
"I noticed you have a school bag. You wouldn't happen to be a student of the Western School District would you?"

Mizuki smiled at him even as he turned to the window. She wondered if she'd ever heard of his family before, thinking she had. "Actually, that is where I'm headed now. I'm a second year there. What about you?" She leaned back in her seat and watched him, curious now. She had noticed his briefcase and couldn't help wondering what it was for. Before get got a chance to answer, the train pulled to a stop and a few more sick looking passengers crammed onto the train. The Stench of rotting flesh wafted over them, and Mizuki gagged on it.
"Perhaps walking from here wouldn't be such a bad idea. The school doesn't happen to be very far from here." she suggested.

Kuro could distinctly smell the scent of rotting flesh as the new passengers boarded the train. It was a foul smell that he did not want to sit through. Thankfully Mizuki brought up the perfect suggestion. Kuro stood up and picked up his briefcase and smiled as he spoke.
"That my dear Mizuki is a fine idea indeed. "
Kuro didn't care if the other passengers heard what they were talking about or if they found him rude for making a slight scene, he simply wanted to be off that train. With that he walked over to the train door and held it open with a smile, patiently waiting his new companion.

Mizuki smiled back at Kuro and walked out the open door he held, waiting for him outside. They appeared to be in some part of downtown not far from their school, but people everywhere were looking pretty sick, like the train passengers.
"Um, Maybe this wasn't the greatest idea...." said Mizuki as the train pulled away behind them. She took a step back as a few of the people closest turned to face them and walked towards them. "What do you think they want?" she asked Kuro.

Kuro stood only a few steps behind Mizuki. He had to agree that this was indeed not the exact kind of place they had wanted to get off at but at least they were no longer confined to a small space. Soon enough though the place was not a problem, but the people around them. Kuro could see that these people were not doing any better then the an that was on the train. In fact they looked worse and the stench on rotting flesh circled around them like an infectious swarm of disgust and vulgarity. It was by no means without Kuro's taste.
Looking closer at those who faced them, he could see that beyond the lifeless, drone like movements and mindless expressions, these people's eyes had become white and almost glazed over. Almost like they were mindless pawns in some sick game. There was clearly no rational thought or emotion within them, which made Kuro extremely uneasy.
He walked up behind Mizuki and whispered into her ear. "I don't know what they want, or if they actually want anything at all. But I strongly suggest we get out of here and now. These people, if they can even be called 'people'anymore are not normal and I imagine not very friendly. If you don't believe me then just look at their eyes."
Kuro tightened his grip on his suitcase, now on guard for whatever was going to happen next. If need be he was ready to defend himself and if necessary Mizuki, though he didn't believe she would need too much defending, after all she was the one with the wooden katana. He nudged her a little and nodded towards an opening that they could escape through, when suddenly one of the people lunged towards them. Without taking a second thought to question what was happening, Kuro side stepped past Mizuki and swung upwards with his briefcase, hitting corner first and hard into the chin of the clumsy man that lunged at them, sending him falling backwards onto his back.
Blood spattered from the wound caused by the blow as the force of it caused the briefcase to pop open, causing all of Kuro's books and papers to fall out onto the ground. Kuro had no time to worry about his school supplies though. He turned towards Mizuki and yelled. "RUN NOW!"

Mizuki looked at their eyes as he mentioned it, and understood what he meant. She grabbed the wooden sword from where she had it laced in her belt and ran after Kuro. "What the hell are they?" she yelled while running. She easily caught up with Kuro though he was pretty fast already. She swung her katana at a passing zombie and kept running.
"Are they even human anymore?" she asked him. He hit another zombie with his now open briefcase and they kept running. They ran to a more residential area and Mizuki saw an empty bus coming to then, with a scared looking bus driver. She waved frantically at him, and he stopped for them to get on. She grabbed Kuro's hand and dragged him onto the bus as they began to pull away.
"Ya'll are both human, right?" he asked them, and Mizuki breathed a yes while catching her breath.

Kuro walked over to one of the front bus seats and sat down with a heavy thump, leaning back as he caught his breath. After his heart finally managed to come down to a more average speed. He leaned forward, placing his hands on his knees as he stood back up, supporting himself by holding onto one of the support bars within the bus.
"We are still human. Question is why aren't they?"
He looked down at his bloodied suitcase that was practically falling apart by this point. It may have been made of metal but it was not made for bashing people in the head a couple of times. Being so be tossed it to the side and decided that the next chance he got he would have to find something else to defend himself with.
"So being the fact that you were as scared as we were when you picked us up, I'm guessing that these 'things' are all around?"
The bus driver nodded and Kuro sat back down, thinking of what they could possibly do next. They already knew that these things were not friendly and being their current situation they had to be more around. He turned to Mizuki and said.
"Well we have some mode of transportation. Question is, where do we go now? Chances are the school, being filled with students like us, would not be a safe place for us. But where else can we go? Mizuki, any suggestions?"

Mizuki looked at him, slightly detachedly at the thought of everyone, all her friends, being like this. That couldn't be true, could it? Others had to have survived. She knew she couldn't break down right now, if she wanted to live, though. She gathered herself and thought of a place they could go.
"Well, the North Side School is the most technologically advanced, so we could try to find communications there. Maybe even other survivors. Think you can get us there?" she asked the bus driver, who just nodded again. He seemed to be in a state of shock.
Mizuki sat down hard on the seat beside Kuro, staring into her hands. She had just KILLED people. Someone who swore to never use a sword to hurt another, had just killed a bunch of people at once. Well, they weren't technically people anymore, but they had been once. The fact that they weren't even human anymore shocked her further. What could have caused this? Would the government be crazy enough to test something like this? She felt someone's eyes on her and looked up to see Kuro studying her. She smiled reassuringly at him.
"You're going to need something new to kill these things with aren't you?" She turned and got up, seeming to search the bus for something. Then a loud banging was heard, as Mizuki was moving something heavy near the back of the bus. There were railings there, and Mizuki had searched through her bag for the little screw driver she kept in there just in case her motorbike that she used sometimes broke down. Too bad she'd left the bike at home today. She detached the top part of the pole and walked back over to Kuro and sat again.
"I think this may come in useful for one thing or another. Never know when you need to smash a few heads in, right?" she said, making a lame attempt at a joke to try and lighten the mood a bit.

Kuro could only smile at Mizuki as he gratefully took the pole that she had so kindly acquired for him. He swung it a little to get a feel for it and smiled.
"Well it isn't my briefcase but I believe it will do just fine."
He chuckled a little and sat back down, resting the pole on his shoulder. He was surprised how resourceful this girl was. It was very rare for him to find someone who could actually prove useful. From what he had seen Mizuki could fight, hold her mind together, have class and even had something as useful as a screwdriver on her person for some sort of emergency. Kuro, being the ever so resourceful and intellectual man that he was didn't even have something like that, granted everything he had of use was on the floor where they were first attacked. That mattered little though for there was nothing they could really use there for the situation they were in now.
Kuro looked out the window as they headed towards the Northern District of the city. He had never been to the northern section before. He would be going into an unknown territory in a situation that presented almost certain doom for them. His only hopes were that Mizuki knew where she was going and that they would run into little resistance upon their arrival, though that was most likely not going to be possible with the spreading of whatever it was that was happening. He then remembered about his good friend Tanaka, who was still at their house. He wondered if he would be alright being an old man and all. He dismissed such ideas knowing they would only get in the way of their own survival. Still he was worried and survival wouldn't stop that. He then remember that he wasn't the only one in such a dilemma. After all he was sure that Mizuki had family here and they were probably having the same problem or had already changed.
He didn't want to think about it anymore. They were in a hell and they had to be strong. He saw no falter in Mizuki and he couldn't afford to over think their problem. After all he was the lucky one here. His family wasn't even in Japan and Tanaka was a resourceful old man. He just had to focus on staying alive and getting to the northern school. He turned to Mizuki and decided to ask her a question.
"Mizuki, if you don't mind me asking? Do you think we can over come this ordeal? I don't mean to sound like I'm giving up or anything but I would like to know your opinion of our situation."

Mizuki smiled tiredly at him, feeling drained from their escape. It had taken a lot more out of her than she'd realized, running halfway across town killing people like it was her job. She didn't want to think about those she had killed or may kill in the future.
"Honestly, I don't know if we will make it out of this or not. How often has something happened? I'd say not very considering we are human and weren't born like them. But I'm going to believe we can make it through this, even if the entire world is infected, and I'm going to cling to that belief and make it a truth."
She turned to look at her hands once more as she sat beside him. She honestly felt like she wanted to cry right now. She kept her eyes studying her palms to choke back the tears that were making her eyes bright, refusing to break down and cry now. Her wooden katana was sitting beside her, covered in blood and scraps of zombie flesh that got stuck as she'd swung it. Even her hands still had some blood on them, which she refused to register at the moment in her mind as being other people's blood.
