Mae is generally quiet and reserved; it takes a lot to make her angry. In addition, she is an observer, preferring to watch other people interact than join them. Mae is happiest when she is practicing martial arts and doesn't have to talk to anyone. Crowds of people make her nervous because there are many opportunities for danger to arise.
She is moderately intelligent, though it is more street smarts than anything else. She didn't do very well in school because she is not good at math or science, and as a result many people view her as unintelligent. She resents this, though she has learned to ignore it serenely.
Her one vanity is the fact that she keeps her hair very long even when it is not the wisest decision.

They sent her Tokyo to live with her aunt so they could restore there family name. When she was 14 she discovered that her parents had a new child, a son. After this discovery Mae decided that she would prove her parents wrong and become a good student. She attends the high school by her aunt's house and studies in the afternoon and trains Wushu in the evening.
When she was almost 15 she fell in love with her instructor, who was 21 at the time. He led her on for about 6 months, taking her on dates and making her think that he was serious. Then one day he dumped her and moved to China. Mae was heartbroken and now focuses solely on her schoolwork and her training. She does everything she can to ignore romantic advances. She is now almost 17.
